San Juan, Nov 21 (EFE) .- The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced the granting of 11 million dollars in aid for farmers and ranchers of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands affected by Hurricanes Irma and María.

The US agency informed through a statement that the aid will reach through the Department of Natural Resources Conservation (NRCS) of the USDA, for technical and financial assistance.

"The USDA remains committed to helping to Puerto Rican farmers with all the means at our disposal. Hurricanes Irma and Maria, "said US Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue.

The official stressed that the aid can be used to prevent soil erosion and flooding and solve water quality problems.

As for the livestock farmers, the aid can be used to eliminate dead cattle, rebuild damaged facilities, and debris removal.
