Uruguay seeks to become a logistics node between Latin America and the world

The Minister of Transport and Public Works of Uruguay, Víctor Rossi, said today that the objective of his portfolio is to "position Uruguay as a logistics node between the region and the world" in the framework of the XXVI Latin American Congress of Ports that is celebrated in the coastal city of Punta del Este.

Montevideo, Nov 7 (EFE) .- The Minister of Transport and Public Works of Uruguay, Víctor Rossi, said today that the objective of his portfolio is "to position Uruguay as a logistics node between the region and the world "within the framework of the XXVI Latin American Ports Congress held in the coastal city of Punta del Este.

" Positioning Uruguay as a logistics node between the region and the world, based on productive-sustainable development in the country, has been an objective in recent years and remains a goal that guides the work of the ministry, "he said.

Minister stressed that the program for the National Port System will allow "all actors in the community" to know the strategic lines for the "next decades".

"We are proposing the definition of what we call a master plan for the National Port System ", Rossi said and explained that in the 2018-2035 agenda of the country importance is given to the connectivity.

With regard to railway projects, he highlighted the modification of access to this mode of transport, as well as the internal circulation in the port of Montevideo and He said that the horizon of these two plans revolve around the year 2022.

With regard to the maritime and fluvial connection, he pointed out that the portfolio is "working on the project of deepening of the access channel of the port of Montevideo, the docks to 14 meters and maintain the depth in the Uruguay River "and that these projects could also be ready in five years.

While in the matter of terrestrial connectivity, Rossi cited the plans to establish pre-embarkation zones, works on the north access and esplanades of the bay, the construction of a viaduct on Edison ravine in Montevideo and access to the ports of Nueva Palmira (in the southwestern zone of Uruguay) and Paysandú (in the northwest), between 2020 and 2023.

The Minister noted that in 2035 the country's ports should provide space to serve as many businesses as possible.

Finally, Rossi stressed that During this period, efforts will be made to incorporate new operational and commercial areas.
