Guatemala, Nov 15 (EFE) .- Various sectors of civil society united in the Citizens Assembly Against Corruption and Impunity of Guatemala will ask this Thursday, with protests convened in the squares of the country, the resignation of the president, Jimmy Morales, and 112 deputies to the Congress for considering them "corrupt."

The Assembly, made up of organizations social, peasant, indigenous, academic, trade unions, women's sectors, cooperatives and university students, plans to hold protests on the squares of the country.

In the capital, the demonstration will take place from 12:00 local time (18:00 GMT) on the outskirts of the Congress, to demand the resignation of 112 of the 158 deputies, according to organizers of the protest.

In addition to calling for the resignation of Morales, the social sectors will demand reforms to the Electoral Law and Political Parties, and an end to the eviction of indigenous and peasant families in the interior of the country.

The protests in the squares began in April 2015 when the Public Prosecutor's Office and the International Counter Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG) dismantled the network of customs fraud known as "The Line".

That investigation cost the government to then President Otto Pérez Molina, who together with his vice president Roxana Baldetti, are being prosecuted for corruption and in preventive detention.

Since that date, the Public Prosecutor's Office and the CICIG have dismantled more than a dozen networks criminals in Guatemala.

President Morales himself was denounced for illicit electoral financing, but the pre-trial process did not prosper in the Congress that maintained his immunity.
